Altos Las Hormigas Meteora Malbec 2021

£28.70

Drink it now or cellar for up to 15 years. It is recommended to decant it for half an hour. Located near Mendoza, at the foot of the Andes, Altos Las Hormigas was born in the 90s from the collaboration of Alberto Antonini and Antonio Marescalchi. Today, the two founders have been joined by partners Attilio Pagli and Carlos Vazquez and the estate extend over 200 hectares located in the two sub-zones of Luján de Cuyo and Maipú. The vineyards enjoy clay-limestone soils with alluvial sediments and a climate characterized by a marked temperature gap between day and night that guarantees freshness in the wines. Meteora Malbec is a wine with a unique character made with grapes organically grown in plots 7, 9, 11, and 12 of the Jardín Altamira vineyard, located at 1,200 meters above sea level, on a mix of limestone and silt-rich soils. After vinification, the finished wine rests in stainless steel and then in concrete vats for 12 months before bottling, to best express the terroir of origin without any woody influence. In the glass, the wine reveals a dense and bright color and a broad and expressive aromatic profile with notes of ripe red fruit and mineral hints. On the palate, it is soft and round, rustic and fresh with a marked acidity and fine and well-integrated tannins. It has a good body and a long and persistent finish. Like many Argentine Malbecs, it works deliciously with grilled meat.
