Distinctive Features: Brachetto d'Acqui is an excellent dessert wine with a light ruby red colour characterized by fine and persistent bubbles. It evokes sweet aromas of aromatic grapes, red fruit and nuances of rose. It has a sweet, pleasant, delicately fresh taste.
Vinification: The harvested grapes are de-stemmed and left to ferment at a controlled temperature for about 2-3 days; the must obtained is filtered and stored at 0 ° C. A slow fermentation in autoclave follows until a 6.5% alcohol content is reached, after which the wine is bottled.
Historical Background: The origins of the Brachetto grapes are unknown. However, one of the first references is the service of this wine at the court of Savoy, praised as a sweet and aromatic red “luxury wine”. Today it is the symbol of Acqui Terme, a small town in the southwest of Piedmont.
Territory: Brachetto is associated with the Piedmont region, this being one of the few wine varieties that produce a sweet red wine in the region.
