The Blandy's are unique in being the only family of all the original founders of the Madeira wine trade to still own and manage their own original wine company.
Madeira is unique in that their grape varieties will always indicate the richness (sweetness) of the wines - Sercial is dry, Verdelho is medium dry, Bual is medium rich & Malmsey is rich.
Each style is aged for an average of 10 years in old oak casks at the Blandy's lodge in Fuchal, Madeira. The lodge is naturally heated by the islands subtropical climate. This causes the sugars in the wines to slowly caramelise, creating that classic Madeira wine style.
Awards: Verdelho - Gold Medal, International Wine Challenge 2014.
Clear and bright topaz colour with a golden hue right up to the rim. Fresh and fragrant bouquet of dried fruits and spice with luxurious warm orangey aromas. Medium dry and full- bodied. Concentrated and fresh with a pleasant zesty bittersweet edge from a finally balanced acidity. Long lingering aftertaste of exotic fruits with spicy overtones. It is excellent as an aperitif but is also exceedingly good with soups, feathered game and pates.
